The Hut
“The little grey building with the hot pink door”
One of the first projects we undertook was renovating the only building on our undeveloped land, Paul Brown’s store, as Eugene Scheel’s map of Rappahannock County labels our building. After removing overgrown vines and invasives, so much overgrown brush that we did not even see the building the first time we visited the land and relocating thousands of bees…we have proudly restored what we lovingly call the “The Hut.”
Many locals have stopped by while we work in our front flower beds to tell us about the history of our land. One of our favorite fun facts about our little building is that on Saturday nights a lot of the young boys would come with their grandfathers to play cards and Paul Brown’s wife would keep score for them! If you have more stories to tell us about ‘The Hut’ we would love to hear them!
‘The Hut’ started out as our “resting place” as we built the farm and planted, planted and planted some more! (and drove and drove and drove some more as we commuted from just outside of DC while our farm house at the top of the hill was built)

The Hut - Less the Invasives

The Hut - Taking her first breathe in years! Getting ready for her authentic makeover.

Does anyone remember stopping for Fussells Ice Cream?

She always has been amazing, inside and out!
Her friends brought in black walnuts and that was about all, which was nice.

Our favorite black snake, he leaves his skin to remind us that he is protecting the farm.

A glimpse of the bee combs in the walls of the Hut, donated to a local church to teach bee keepin to local children. We will eventually have hives on the land.

Beaver Dam Creek - one of the first questions we were asked is, "Do you know how much a bridge will cost?" The answer is now, "No".......long story
The gorgeous ceiling in the Hut! No insulation, but who knows what a true 2x12 is? She does.

Have you been paying attention? You WIN a Peony subscription, if you can solve the riddle here. No more clues.

The front beds, the display gardens that you can enjoy if you drive slow enough down the road!

Sigh......

Showing off all of her flowers!
