The Hut

“The little grey building with the hot pink door”

One of the first projects we undertook was renovating the only building on our undeveloped land, Paul Brown’s store, as Eugene Scheel’s map of Rappahannock County labels our building. After removing overgrown vines and invasives, so much overgrown brush that we did not even see the building the first time we visited the land and relocating thousands of bees…we have proudly restored what we lovingly call the “The Hut.”

Many locals have stopped by while we work in our front flower beds to tell us about the history of our land. One of our favorite fun facts about our little building is that on Saturday nights a lot of the young boys would come with their grandfathers to play cards and Paul Brown’s wife would keep score for them! If you have more stories to tell us about ‘The Hut’ we would love to hear them!

The Hut’ started out as our “resting place” as we built the farm and planted, planted and planted some more! (and drove and drove and drove some more as we commuted from just outside of DC while our farm house at the top of the hill was built)
